Let me tell you a bit about me, Vicky Lomas, who I am and why I do what what I do.
Most of my life I was overweight, hated PE at school, in fact any kind of fitness, wouldn’t step foot in a gym, went aerobics with my mum a couple of times and got told off for laughing 🤦 (if you could have seen my coordination back then!) spent my weekends drunk and smoked 20 a day. The alcohol was for confidence. I was extremely shy but it gave it me the power for that short space of time to not worry what anyone else thought and speak my mind. I’ve had depression and still have anxiety on some occasions.
A friend took me to a Zumba class and wow! Fitness can be fun and I felt amazing! I wasn’t good, I wasn’t in time, but no one cared because everyone was concentrating on themselves. When my fitness started to improve I took a massive leap and hired a personal trainer after attending a few of his classes. He was ex army and definitely put me through my paces! First time I thought I was going to throw up in a fitness session. Even got me running when I always said I was never built for running, I did a half marathon! He gave me so much confidence that I can be fit and achieve the goals I want to but being realistic. There is no permanent quick fix!
Anyway cutting an extremely long story short I became a Pound Pro at the age of 35 because I wanted classes for all abilities and for people to walk into my class feeling comfortable without the “that’s my space at the front third one in from the left!” or “why is that person here, they’re not fit” My first session when I look back now was probably awful but I loved it. Loved seeing the smiling sweaty faces knowing that I did that! Exercise really does release “happy hormones” and my qualifications have just gone on from there and still continuing. I love my job. I’m lucky I’ve had the amazing support of my husband all the way through to ditch the well paid “day job” and follow my dreams. The journey over the last 6 years has not been easy, in fact far from, but I would never go back.
The fact is everyone attends a fitness class for their own reasons whatever that might be but whatever it is we’re all striving for a similar outcome.
So welcome the newbie, chat to the regular, smile, laugh, move and enjoy!
